Musician Showcase: Tania Farley

I have known and loved this remarkable woman for over five decades. She is not only my wife, but my soulmate and closest musical collaborator…adding her unique and genuine voice, keyboard, and percussion talents to my recordings and our performances. Starting with Cimarron, she has been part of The Tom Farley – Cam Head Band, The Tom Farley Band, and The High Energy Acoustics Band. She has won “Best Female Vocalist in Hampton Roads” and was an audience favorite her entire career.
The beautiful thing about making music with Tania is that, no matter what band or studio session we were a part of, our two voices and two instruments were a constant throughout each experience. We created and polished distinctive harmonies and styles with each other, Vernon Martin and Tom Lavin (Cimarron), Denny Smith (Songsmyth), Cam Head and Michael Monahan (The Tom Farley-Cam Head Band) , and with Gerry Herndon, David Edwards, and Dave Hanvey (The Tom Farley Band)…adding originality to each live performance and recording session.
With continuing our music in the studio over the years (1977-2023), that foundation has produced a distinctive sound and presence that is our own…creating three and four part harmonies on our own…and developing great vocal collaborations like “Free Me (A Song About Addiction)” working with some of the finest vocalists in the area (with a vocal arrangement that Tania created). And after a 20 year absence from the stage, her live performance with “The High Energy Acoustics Band: First Take” (also captured on the live concert album by the same name and released in 2017) was stunning.
This Musician Showcase highlights her contributions as a lead singer, vocalist, vocal arranger, and musician. Unless you saw us perform in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s, and in 2016…or read the liner notes on the albums…you would not be aware of her multi-talented contributions. She added her voice to almost every recording I made. Her performances of “Baby Can I Hold You” (Tracy Chapman) and “Landslide” (Stevie Nicks) cemented her reputation and sound in the eyes and ears of her admirers and colleagues; her studio vocals on “By the Fence in the Sun” (2016) and “Free Me: A Song About Addiction” (2017) show that her sound and her ear are still exceptional. Her live performance with The High Energy Acoustics Band - First Take (2016) shows that - even after 20 years since her last full evening on stage - her sound and presence were alive and well.

With luck, we'll continue to make music together for many years to come...
